Skills Connect for Immigrants Program

Client Eligibility

Clients may be eligible for the Skills Connect for Immigrants Program if they:

  • became a permanent resident of Canada within the last five years;
  • have a minimum of three years of pre-arrival work experience in a profession , trade or high-skill occupation; and
  • have an intermediate to advanced level of English language proficiency.

 

Description of Services Available

Skills Connect clients will be provided services and supports in one or more of the following components, depending on individual needs:

  1. Career Assessment and Planning Services

  • Assessment of English proficiency, academic qualifications, technical skills, essential skills, career management skills and financial means

  • Individualized action planning

  • Information and referral to appropriate services or workplace practice

b.    Pre-employment Skill Enhancement Services

  • English training at CLB level seven or higher

  • Limited academic upgrading

  • Technical skills upgrading

  • Essential skills upgrading

  • Job search skills

  • Career management skills

  • Orientation to workplace culture

c.     Workplace Orientation and Practice Services

  • Mentorship and/or job shadowing

  • Internship or apprenticeship.
